You'll study design, history and the technical knowledge that underpin architecture. The course opens with design studio fundamentals, drawing, making and critique, alongside architectural history and how buildings are constructed. In the second year, you progress to more complex design briefs whilst developing your knowledge of environmental design, structures and digital tools such as CAD and BIM. By year three, you'll undertake a major design project (the RIBA Part 1 centrepiece), supported by studies in professional practice and a written dissertation on an architectural question. Throughout, you'll usually work across specialisations such as sustainable design, urban design, digital design and portfolio development. The placement year gives you practical experience in practice before or after your study, depending on how you structure it.
