What you'll study

Mechanical Engineering is the foundation of diverse sectors, automotive, aerospace, marine and medical. You'll begin with core theory: engineering mathematics covering calculus and numerical methods, mechanics and materials exploring stress and dynamics, and design practice with CAD and workshop techniques. In your second year, you'll progress to discipline-specific modules such as thermodynamics and fluids (or circuits and systems), engineering analysis and computing for simulation and data work, and undertake a team design project against a real specification. From year 3 onwards, you'll choose from specialisations including robotics and mechatronics, energy and sustainability, civil and structural engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering. A substantial individual project forms the centrepiece of your final stages, complemented by modules in professional practice covering safety, ethics and sustainability.
