This joint honours course combines film and television studies with historical enquiry. You'll usually begin with foundational modules in both disciplines: historical sources and argument-building through "The Historian's Craft", alongside broad surveys of medieval to modern worlds. As you progress, you'll combine focused historical study, periods and themes examined through primary sources, with film and television analysis. Year 2 typically introduces historiography, methods and public history, whilst your specialism deepens. In your final year, you'll undertake advanced document-led work and pursue specialist options such as modern history, medieval studies, global and imperial history, social and cultural history, public history and heritage, or archival research. You'll complete an original research dissertation drawing on primary evidence, integrating insights from both film/television and historical perspectives.
