This course focuses on developing practical and technical expertise to design and realise mechanical systems. You'll usually start with core foundations: engineering mathematics, mechanics and materials science, alongside hands-on design and CAD work. From Year 2 onwards, the curriculum typically moves through thermodynamics and fluids, engineering analysis, computing and simulation, progressing towards specialist options in areas such as robotics and mechatronics, energy and sustainability, civil and structural engineering, or electrical and electronic systems. Group and individual design projects form the centrepiece of the later stages, where you apply theory to real engineering problems. Professional practice, covering safety, ethics and sustainability, is integrated alongside. A substantial individual project in your final year brings together the knowledge and skills you've developed.
