What you'll study

This course equips you to work as a forensic scientist, with emphasis on crime scene analysis and laboratory techniques. You'll usually start with core Physics and Chemistry foundations, mechanics, matter and energy, atomic structure and bonding, alongside mathematics for scientists and introductory laboratory skills covering measurement, uncertainty and scientific reporting. In your second year, you progress to quantum physics and thermal physics, or organic and physical chemistry at a deeper level, combined with advanced experimental work and scientific programming. By year three, you specialise in areas such as materials science, medicinal chemistry, quantum science, computational methods or a research placement, and undertake a supervised research project alongside research-level seminars taught by active researchers in the field.
