You'll usually begin with intensive grammar, speaking and writing to build fluency, alongside study of German-speaking cultures through history, film and literature, and an introduction to how languages work. In your second year, you'll progress to advanced language production, including debate, translation and register, while deepening your cultural knowledge and developing professional translation and interpreting techniques. Year 3 typically involves immersion abroad through study or work placement in a German-speaking environment.
