The first years follow the standard BSc Computer Science curriculum, establishing programming, mathematics, systems and theoretical foundations. The fourth year is where the MComp diverges: students take advanced taught modules and choose from specialisations such as Software Engineering, Data Science, AI & Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Web & Mobile, Cloud & DevOps, Games and HCI. Running alongside these modules is a group research project, in which students work together over a sustained period on a specialist problem, planning the work, dividing responsibilities, and producing a piece of research that goes beyond what a single-year undergraduate project would typically allow.
