What you'll study
This course includes a Foundation Year to prepare you for undergraduate study if you're returning to education or don't meet typical degree entry requirements. Once on the main degree, you'll usually begin with the fundamentals of cell biology, biochemistry, genetics and evolution, alongside practical lab skills and data analysis. In Year 2, you progress to molecular biology, physiology or microbiology depending on your path, and undertake your first substantial lab project. By Year 3, you specialise in areas such as biomedical science, molecular biology, ecology and conservation, biotechnology, microbiology or neuroscience, whilst reading current research literature and completing an extended supervised investigation. The course normally moves from broad biological principles to increasingly independent, specialist study.
