This course draws on UWE Bristol's specialist on-site optometry facilities and placement opportunities to prepare you for optometry practice. You'll usually begin with foundations in clinical skills, optical sciences and person-centred care, then move through modules in acute and long-term eye care, pharmacology and evidence-based practice. Throughout the 4 years, you'll undertake supervised clinical placements in diverse settings, community practice, hospital eye services and specialist units, which typically constitute around half your study time. In your final years, you'll focus on complex cases, clinical leadership and consolidating your competence for professional registration. You may specialise in areas such as adult optometry, community practice or hospital eye care as your studies progress.
