What you'll study

This course focuses on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. You'll progress from engineering fundamentals through to advanced specialisation and research. You'll usually begin with core mathematics, mechanics and materials science, alongside design and practical skills in CAD and workshop practice. In your second year, a typical course moves to discipline-specific work, thermodynamics and fluids or circuits and systems, along with engineering analysis, computing and a group design project. Later years emphasise specialist options such as mechanical, electrical and electronic, civil and structural, robotics and mechatronics, or energy and sustainability, plus professional engineering practice covering safety, ethics and sustainability. You'll complete a substantial individual project as your degree's centrepiece. An optional placement year is available.
