What you'll study

This course combines digital electronics, microprocessors and software to develop embedded computer systems. You'll normally start with engineering mathematics, mechanics and materials science, alongside CAD and workshop skills. In year 2, you'll move into circuits and systems, engineering analysis and computing, typically working on a group design project against a real specification. By year 3, you'll choose specialist options such as robotics and mechatronics, energy and sustainability, or pursue the chartered (CEng) pathway. The degree culminates in a substantial individual project, a supervised design or research undertaking that forms the course's centrepiece.
