You'll study the scientific foundations of medical practice, moving from core biomedical sciences through to clinical application. In your first two years, you'll usually cover anatomy, physiology and pathology across body systems, alongside clinical and communication skills taught from the outset, learning history-taking and patient examination early. Population health, epidemiology and professional ethics form part of this foundation. From year three onwards, a course like this normally shifts to hospital and general practice placements, where you'll rotate through medicine, surgery and specialties such as paediatrics, psychiatry and obstetrics. You'll undertake student-selected components, often research-focused deep-dives into areas of your choosing, and may pursue specialisations such as clinical placements, surgery, general practice or intercalated research.
