What you'll study

This foundation year leads into the main degree, giving you time to build core science knowledge before progressing to clinical studies. You'll usually begin with Biomedical Sciences Core, anatomy, physiology and pathology, typically taught by body system, alongside Clinical and Communication Skills from the outset, so you practise history-taking and patient examination early on. Years 1–2 also cover Population Health and Ethics, including epidemiology and public health. From Year 3 onwards, a course like this normally moves to Clinical Rotations across hospital and general practice settings, with Specialty Attachments in areas such as psychiatry, paediatrics and surgery. You'll undertake student-selected components for deeper exploration, often involving research.
