You'll study the knowledge and skills needed for nursing practice, with the opportunity to develop independent prescribing competence. A course like this typically starts with foundations in clinical practice, anatomy and physiology, and person-centred care, then moves into acute and long-term care management, medicines administration and pharmacology, and evidence-based practice in Year 2 and 3. Throughout, you'll undertake supervised placements in various settings, approximately 50% of the curriculum, in community, mental health, specialist units and acute care. You'll usually progress towards leadership and complex care coordination in later years, consolidating your competence for NMC registration. Specialisations in your pathway may include adult nursing, mental health, children's nursing, community and primary care, or leadership focus.
