Whilst sports law is now widely recognised as a discrete jurisprudential category of law, it has nonetheless its foundations in the traditional areas of law such as contract law, tort law, criminal law, employment law and European Union law. Provides an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental legal principles, institutions and procedures upon which the English Legal System is founded. Introduces legal research, legal writing, legal referencing, legal etiquette, and alternative legal systems.

Examines how the core parts of the business (marketing, finance, the media, sponsorship, event management, leadership and HR) operate. Analyses the development of sport and governance of both elite and grassroots organisations.

Introduces personal and professional factors relevant to employment in the sport industry and enhances awareness of the industrial landscape. Supports development of essential academic skills for higher education including academic writing and referencing. Introduces perspectives, philosophies, and principles of critical and ethical thinking.

Provides intellectual foundations to the study of sports law by examining historical and contemporary debates concerning the relationship between sport and law. Provides introduction to how sport is regulated and how sport organises itself. Examines the law of negligence and its application to sport. Analyses legal issues particular to the sports industry, including anti-doping. Considers the interaction between human rights and sports.

Develops awareness and understanding of the source and purpose of accounting information. Introduces Financial and Management accounting and their constituent audiences' needs. Teaches how to draft and analyse financial statements through case studies. Introduces accounting principles and frameworks for management decision making, planning and controlling organisational activities. Introduces various sources of finance and their related implications.

Teaches how different factors have influenced the development of the football business. Examines the framework within which all football-related institutions coexist and the unique role that clubs play in society which distinguishes football business from other environments.

Explores challenges relating to safeguarding the safety of those connected with sport and maintaining the integrity of sporting competitions. Critically examines how governing bodies and the law regulate misconduct and criminal activity by sports participants and combat threats to the integrity of sport involving corruption.

Develops higher-level understanding of business and management principles and their application to the sport industry. Analyses the political and economic contexts in which sport operates and the structure of the sports industry. Assesses implications of tensions emerged as sport has become more globally salient.

Focuses on developing practical skills relevant to a workplace environment. Applies knowledge and personal skillset to problem-based learning scenarios and live projects. Develops project management skills, personal pragmatism, and industry-based interests and understanding through team and independent work.

Supports ability to become an evidence-based practitioner by providing introduction to processes involved in conducting research within the discipline. Critically examines the regulatory framework affecting governance choices made by sports governing bodies. Reviews how decisions of governing bodies can lead to legal challenge. Explores the claim that sports has 'specific characteristics' that make it unique and whether it should be free to determine its own organisational and regulations. Examines the role and regulatory function of governing bodies through legal sports cases.

Involves the full gamut of business knowledge and skills. Students develop a business idea within a group and produce a pitch deck presented to an investment panel, then produce a business plan based on feedback. Provides skills and knowledge from the world of business underpinned by relevant theories and models to succeed in a variety of careers and provide realistic and viable alternative career opportunity establishing and running your own business.

Explores the web of contractual relationships that operate within sport from an employment perspective. Examines how athletes, managers, coaches and support staff can have different employment rights and may be employed or operate as workers or self-employed. Navigates through complex web of contractual relations and explores how a unique system of public and private regulation applies to sport.
