What do we do?

Based in Scotland, the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is a partnership of independent colleges and research institutions with diverse study locations in small historic cities, towns and island communities.

At UHI, you will never just be a number - wellbeing, learning, financial and careers support are available every step of the way.

What makes us special?

As a multi-campus university, our courses are designed to make the most of the local industries and environment of each place, so the subject you choose will define where you live and learn.

For example, where better to study Marine Biology than on the beach at the Scottish Association for Marine Science? Or, for engineers, our Perth campus has its own aircraft hangar and aeronautical lab.

What course opportunities do we offer?

Our degrees are highly practical and designed with employability in mind, so you will get a solid understanding of the theory and put that knowledge into practice through various avenues such as fieldwork, work placements and industry projects throughout your course. Our graduates are prepared for their next step, whether going into work, further study or research.

International field trips are also built into many of our courses, giving students the opportunity to gain relevant experience in a range of settings relevant to their degrees and future careers. For example, BSc (Hons) Environmental Science and BSc (Hons) Geography students undertook fieldwork projects in Iceland, while our BSc (Hons) Marine Science students can choose to study their third year in the Arctic Circle or South Carolina, USA.

Being a student isn’t only about studying! With its mix of tranquil and exhilarating activities in both rural and city communities, the Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire offer our students a unique lifestyle. Enjoy excellent access to beaches, mountains, paddleboarding, climbing, mountain biking and camping spots.
